FIRST FRIENDS
Pen-pals for young learners
First Friends is designed to encourage friendship through self-expression between children in kindergarten to grade 3. We bring together classrooms for the purpose of discovering and celebrating commonalities, in a non-curriculum based approach.
First Friends facilitates theme-based, quarterly exchanges of drawings, letters, stories, pictures and songs that are positive, age appropriate and student-driven. Rather than pairing students to students, First Friends pairs teachers of same grades, so that through the years their connection can deepen and a meaningful relationship between schools can be cultivated.
The 2017-2018 school year represents a second-year pilot of this initiative. We are currently accepting one Indigenous and one non-Indigenous class for each grade level. Exchanges will take place in October, January and April.
If you would like to get involved, please email us at firstfriends.ilfp@gmail.com.
First Friends is a joint project of I Love First Peoples and Play Nice Productions Inc.
